National Secondary Schools' Brass Band

In the October School holidays Hamilton City Brass Organisation had three members attend the National Secondary Schools' Brass Band Camp. This is a prestigious event which happens every year. Sandra Ginever (Hamilton Auxiliary Brass) is the NSSBB Band Manager.  Walter Hughes (Hamilton City Brass) was selected as principal euphonium for the NSSBB and Vonya Cowie was selected to play Bass Trombone in the NSSBB Development Band.

Our students had an amazing camp with almost 70 players plus amazing supporters:

The MD's were Andrew Snell (Christchurch) and Rueben Brown Wellington).

The tutors were: Julia Mallard, Kevin McMorran (cornets - both from Christchurch), Mike Ford (Tenor Horn, from Nelson), Kaitlyn Brindley (Baritones and Euphoniums, from Christchurch), Aishah Leitner (Trombones, from Christchurch), Cameron Lee (Percussion, From Christchurch), Guest soloist Ross Gerritsen (from Nelson).

The band camp was five days long with up to eight hours per day rehearsal time. The audition period happens from February/March with bands selected in June/July and camp in October. This is such a great opportunity for any secondary school aged student. Next year will be in Hamilton, so hopefully many of our students apply.
