Armistice Day 2018 - 100 Years since the end of World War One

100 Years ago the Armistice was signed between the Allies and Germany to mark the end of the First World War. This was meant to be the war to end all wars, and of course as history will tell us, a generation later they were at it again for World War Two and for quite different reasons.

The First World War defined us as a nation with our strong connection to Australia the ANZACs were formed and many young men left our country never to return, or returned maimed physically and psychologically by the war.

Todays commemoration was to remember the Armistice, and the Hamilton City Council put on a range of activities, including a range of entertainments - such as Hamilton City Brass Senior Band, and the Hamilton City Brass Auxiliary Band, there were barbershop performances, activities for children - sack races, egg and spoon, old fashioned games and of course face painting, ice creams and a picnic in the park.  The formal side of the occasion included speeches and the Last Post played by Clive from the Senior Band.

Thanks to Dana Foley who took photographs in the morning.  The bands entertained the crowds. It is good to remember the Armistice, lest we forget. Let's not forget the sacrifices made by others for our freedom.

Waikato Bay of Plenty D Grade Champions for 2018

It is really awesome that I can post that Hamilton City Brass Auxiliary Band are now the Waikato BOP champion D Grade band for 2018.

Second Place: Hymn (first place went to our friends at  Matamata Brass Band)

It is also nice for the band to note we got the 3rd highest score on the day behind Eastern Bay of Plenty and Hamilton City Brass Senior Band (both of these bands are A Grade bands)
